The exotic passion berry comes from the Ruta chalepensis shrub, which is a species of flowering plant in the citrus family. Native to Ethiopia, the fruity spicy aroma from this berry has strong notes of passion fruit and makes a wonderful finishing spice for fish, cream sauces, and sauteed vegetables. The passion berry is frequently used in the famous Ethiopian Berbere spice blend.
